My dad passed away this September. I try to be like him every day.

He took care of my mom for years when she was diagnosed with dementia. The last two years of her life she spent in a nursing home. Dad was there with her every day. The people who worked there told me they had never seen such love. Dad was loving, loyal and attentive to mom. He always had a smile or a joke for her and everyone there no matter how sad or exhausted he was each day there.

In July he was diagnosed with cancer. Even so when anyone asked him how he was he would say,"If I was any better I couldn't stand it!"

About a month before he died he realized one day that a pharmacy clerk had given him $1 too much in change. He made my brother take him back to the pharmacy to return the dollar even though he was in much pain from the cancer. That is just the kind of man he was.

He and mom raised eight kids and was so proud of all of us. We are so proud of him!

He was a B17 ball turret gunner in WWII but he didn't think his generation was "The Greatest". "We just did what we had to do", he would say.

If you met my dad you would have liked him He could light up a room by entering it. Humble, joyful and forever positive he was a treasure.

I miss you dad.
