A little-known hip-hop promoter has lined up some well-known Twin Cities performers for a peace rally outside the State Capitol on Sunday afternoon, an event said to be "in response to recent events nationally and in our own city."

Simply billed as Support at the Capitol, the event's Facebook page lists appearances by members of Doomtree (P.O.S., Mike Mictlan, Cecil Otter, Sims, Paper Tiger and Lazerbeak) as well as Desdamona, PaviElle French, Wain McFarlane and friends, Mac Irv, Big Wiz, J Plaza and more. It's scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. and advertised as free and family-friendly.

"It's not a protest rally," said organizer Isaac Peterson of 10-K Kollective. "It's a community get-together. It's a way for us to all be together, listening to some good music and supporting one another."

Peterson said he originally envisioned the event as "just a little thing in a park somewhere with 150 people," but when he started making calls he got more and more support to turn it into something bigger. Among those who gave him a boost, he said, were representatives from both St. Paul and state governments, who provided the permits and other help to make the Capitol grounds available on such short notice.

"Everyone has loved the idea," he said.

In addition to music, Peterson hopes to have speeches from some of the religious and civic leaders who have spoken at events surrounding Thursday's fatal shooting death of Philando Castile by a St. Anthony police officer and Friday's alleged drive-by shooting in north Minneapolis that killed a toddler.
