Locked-out musicians taking matters into their own hands with a performance Thursday night.

The orchestra�۪s home since 1974, the building will be remodeled during the next year to expand the lobby and refurbish the auditorium. The $50 million project begins this month and the orchestra will not return until fall, 2013. In the meantime, Sommerfest�۪s principal location will be the Ted Mann Concert Hall at the University

Thursday: Musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra, who have been locked out since Oct. 1 in a contract dispute, will play a concert on their own at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

The program of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 and Dvorak's Cello Concerto (featuring Tony Ross) takes the place of what would have been the opening night of the orchestra's 2012-13 season. When management locked out the musicians, it also canceled the first six weeks of the season.
