Mounds View football coach Jim Galvin goes for career victory No. 100 on Friday at White Bear Lake, the school where his father, Jim, enjoyed success as a basketball coach.

The elder Galvin's 1983-84 and 1984-85 teams went a combined 52-0 and won two state championships. The younger Galvin played basketball and football and graduated from White Bear Lake in 1985.

He went on to make his mark as a football coach, leading Mounds View to six state tournament appearances in his first 12 seasons. The Mustangs (5-1) have scored 41 or more points in four games this season. Senior fullback Matt Hunt rushed 25 times for 231 yards and two touchdowns in last Friday's victory against Hastings.

Hannula answers call

Coon Rapids junior tennis player Heidi Hannula won a key match against Maple Grove that helped the Cardinals earn a share of the Northwest Suburban Conference title for the first time in 13 years.

With the match against the Crimson tied at 3-3, Hannula needed a victory at No. 2 singles. She won her first set and lost the second to set up a decisive third set.

"There was absolute determination on her part that she was not going to let this match escape her fingertips," Cardinals coach Scott Storrick said.

Showing focus and strength, Hannula won 6-1 in the third set in about 15 minutes.
