Q: I read your column every week religiously. This week one reader mentioned "automatic door unlocking" when the transmission is placed in park. I also feel this is a grave personal safety issue. We have a 2017 Audi and a 2018 Audi and the feature cannot be turned off by the owner. The Audi dealer refuses to assist even though they can correct this through OMB II. Perhaps you can address overcoming this safety issue as carjacking is a more relevant problem each day. Your doors should not unlock unless you want them to unlock.

A: Bless you for reading the column religiously. Maybe that's why it appears in so many Sunday papers. Whenever you place the gear selector in park, the doors unlock. But you can relock them by pressing the lock button. Then you can exit through the driver's door without disturbing the other doors. If you are overly concerned, you could take the key fob with you as you exit and then lock all of the doors. By the way, we think you may be referring the OBD II (onboard diagnostic system, second generation).

Q: I have a 2010 Honda Odyssey with 100,000 miles. I have been trying to find general suggested intervals for transmission fluid changes and engine coolant changes. Many online owner club sites mention 30,000-40,000 miles for transmission fluid changes, but some say 60,000 or even 120,000 miles. Engine coolant suggestions vary even more. I've written to Honda, and Honda says just follow the maintenance minder in the car's onboard computer. However, I'd like a general idea of what intervals are expected just to plan out maintenance costs. These intervals are not mentioned in the owner's manual. In addition, our local dealer seems to have its own interval recommendations. Who am I to believe? Is there a document that spells out these and other recommended intervals?

A: Unfortunately, Honda does not spell out the maintenance schedules in the owner's manual. You are simply instructed to follow the alerts provided on your car's display. Take with a grain of salt what you see from online forums. There is plenty of misinformation that gets repeated from others' posts. Your Honda dealer should be the trusted source of information, but as you have discovered, some suggest services that Honda does not require. Trust the maintenance minder. You may also find helpful the Car Care Council website (http://www.carcare.org/car-care-service-schedules/general-service-schedule/).

Q: I read the letter by D.V. of Chicago in your column and am wondering if she doesn't own the same car I do. In April I bought a 2015 Accord Sport. I was made uneasy by automatic door unlocking as well. But a brief consultation with the owner's manual informed me that this was just one of several door lock configurations I could choose from. In addition to being able to choose when the doors unlocked (if at all), I could also choose at what point the doors locked (if at all). I hope this is of some help.

A: Owner's manuals are worth consulting, unless you need maintenance schedules.
