Motorcyclist killed in Fillmore County collision with horse is identified

A 60-year-old Iowa man who died Friday morning when his motorcycle collided with a horse in rural Fillmore County has been identified as Timothy Joe Holt.

Holt was driving his 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on a rural two-lane road in an area of rolling hills when a horse grazing in a south ditch broke free of a constraint and wandered onto Hwy. 44 near Mabel, according to the State Patrol.

Holt braked and swerved before hitting the animal in the eastbound lane.

Authorities responded to the call about 11:30 a.m. Holt died at the scene. The horse was also killed in the crash.

Holt, a truck driver from Decorah, Iowa, was not wearing a helmet. According to his Facebook page, he is originally from Detroit Lakes, Minn.
