A motorcyclist was traveling at a "high speed" in northern Anoka County before crashing down the block from his home in Ham Lake, authorities said Friday.

Scott M. DeLambo, 49, crashed late Sunday afternoon in the 17200 block of Kenyon Street NE. and died the next afternoon at Hennepin County Medical Center, according to the medical examiner's office.

DeLambo is among 14 people killed in motorcycle crashes this year in Minnesota, according to the state Department of Public Safety. There were 12 motorcycle fatalities in the state at this time last year.

DeLambo "was witnessed driving fast on Crosstown Boulevard, then turning onto Kenyon Street and almost losing control," Anoka County Sheriff's Cmdr. Paul Sommer said Friday. "[The] witness heard a crash but did not observe the crash happen."

Spokeswoman Stephanie Waegener, who specializes in motorcycle incidents for the department, said DeLambo "lost control in a curve at [a] high speed." Waegener added that DeLambo was not wearing a helmet.

DeLambo graduated from Irondale High School and worked for many years at auto dealerships around the Twin Cities. Survivors include his wife, a 14-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter.
