After what has been a tremendously wet month in South Korea, more heavy rainis on the way. A strong low pressure system will cross the Korean Peninsula.Strong jet stream winds will combine with deep tropical moisture to bringwidespread heavy rainfall.

From 3-5 inches of rain is expected Tuesday. Rainfall has been tremendous sofar this month. Rainfall in Seoul so far this moth has topped 16 inches. Julyis usually the wettest month across Korea, but Seoul's monthly average of 14inches has already been exceeded.

The Korean Peninsula has one of the most interesting climates on the Earth.

It is arguable that Korea experiences six different seasons. While the summerclimate is very tropical, winters are harsh. The average high temperature inSeoul in January is barely above freezing. The other seasons in Korea include aYellow Dust season in early spring. This is when wind storms across China'sGobi Desert pick up sand and dust, depositing it across Korea. There have beensome cases when the dust has crossed the Pacific and reached the U.S. WestCoast. The sixth season is the end of summer, when it is still hot and humid, but rainfall is much less.

Looking toward the end of the week, even more rain is expected. A tropicaldepression moved across Taiwan Monday. This tropical depression will getabsorbed into a cold front that will move across Korea late Thursday or Friday.

There is no end in sight to the heavy rainfall.
