Things are getting quite hairy around here, thanks to an abundance of mustachioed men.

Movember, the monthlong event where participating guys (Mo Bros) grow facial hair to raise awareness for men's health issues, including prostate cancer, has become a bona fide global movement since its inception in Australia in 2003.

So far, more than 1.9 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas (women who support Mo Bros) have participated in events and raised nearly $300 million.

In Columbia Heights, police officers are allowed to sport neatly trimmed beards and mustaches this month, as long as they're raising money for the cause. Minnesota Wild hockey coaches and other staffers are keeping their upper lips warm. The guys at KARE-11 news are bringing awareness to the airwaves by shelving their razors for the month.

Even your favorite local hot-dog cart operator is rocking a 'stache to show support.

"Cancer, I'm gonna punch you in the face! Sincerely, My 'Stache," Nate Beck, owner of Natedogs, tweeted earlier this month.

The campaign is also attracting interest from companies like Foster's beer, Toms shoes and the Art of Shaving, which offered free shaves on "Movember" 1st at its Mall of America store.

Lacking that extra scruff and feeling left out? There are plenty of local happenings to share in the mustache love -- from gala parties where you can compete for awards of Best Mo in Character, Team Mo and Man of Movember 2012, to Stashe Bashes at local bars to show off the hairiest of efforts.

Finally, on Dec. 1, guys can give their whiskers an honorable sendoff by competing in the Moustache Run (www.moustache run.com), a 5K run along the Mississippi in Minneapolis.
