The Guthrie Theater has announced a couple of details surrounding the Hampton Festival this fall. Julian Bond, the former NAACP chair, will be featured "In Conversation" on the Guthrie stage in connection with the production of Christopher Hampton's "Appomattox," in the proscenium theater. Bond will discuss the themes surrounding the Civil War and the Civil Rights Era, both dealt with in Hampton's new play. The event will be at 1 p.m., Nov. 4. Cost is $20 general, $15 for subscribers and students. Dates for the play "Embers" have been determined. The play — which replaced "Total Eclipse" on the festival lineup — will run Oct. 9-27 under the direction of Joe Dowling in the studio. "Embers" is based on a novel by Sándor Márai.

Lastly, the Guthrie is presenting what it calls two "Extreme Hampton Weekends." If that conjures pictures of bungee jumping from the endless bridge or skateboarding down the escalators, settle down. It's not quite that extreme. According to the press release, the weekends of Oct. 12-15 and Oct. 19-22 will galvanize all the Guthrie's resources to "intensify to a level of total immersion." So, bring your snorkel. Hampton himself will be in conversation with Dowling, the film "Carrington" will be screened, all three announced plays ("Tales from Hollywood" is the third) will be in production and there will be post-show discussions. www.guthrietheater.org
