Authorities in Montana arrested the 28-year-old father of a 3-year-old St. Cloud boy who accidentally shot and wounded himself with his father's gun this week.

The father, who hasn't yet been charged, is a felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.

St. Cloud Police sought his arrest after Monday's incident and he was finally arrested Wednesday morning in a traffic stop in Miles City, Mont. The man, whose last listed address was the St. Cloud prison, according to public records, has a lengthy criminal record including domestic assault by strangulation, a felony offense. He is being held in Montana pending charges for being a prohibited felon possessing a firearm and the negligent storage of a firearm.

St. Cloud Police received a report of a child bleeding about 11 a.m. Monday and discovered a woman had arrived at a hospital with her son, who had been shot after the child accidentally pulled the trigger of the firearm. The boy was hospitalized and is in stable condition.
