A mother and two children from Mississippi were killed on Saturday when the pickup they were in rolled off an icy road in northern Minnesota, authorities said.

The crash occurred on Hwy. 2, about 9 miles east of Cass Lake, according to the State Patrol.

According to the patrol:

Jeremiah Statham, 28, was eastbound about 5:40 p.m. with his wife, Catherine, 27, and their children, Jeremiah, 3, and Emma, 1, when he lost control of the vehicle. It slid off the icy highway, hit some trees and came to rest on its roof.

The woman and children were killed. Statham was hospitalized in Duluth in critical condition.

Their residence is listed as Foxworth, Miss.

No alcohol was detected, and everyone in the vehicle were wearing seat belts.

Mary Davis, Jeremiah Statham's aunt, said he had been working in Minnesota for three months. His family was spending time with him before they were to return to Mississippi next month, she said.
