Have a hanky nearby for this one. Mint Condition is holding a contest for fans to submit their own video to the band's high-emotion ballad "Unsung," the theme of which is honoring an unsung, everyday hero in the lives of the entrants. A track off the group's recent comeback album, "7... ," it was written by Mint keyboardist Lawrence Wadell about just such a person, his foster mother. Said Wadell, "My mother shaped my life in an incredible way, and I will always be grateful to her for what's she's done."

The St. Paul R&B vets are offering a prize to match the special subject: They teamed with the great charity-driving site www.GiveMN.org to grant the contest winner a $1,500 to a charity of their choice. Mint's record label Shanachie Entertainment is also throwing in a straight-up $500 cash prize. Deadline for submission is June 11. Here are the full contest details.

As an example of what it's looking for, the band points to this video below, submitted by Danya Matthews of Washington, D.C., about her parents. Lovely stuff. Take a look.
