It's not very often a prospect can get injured then get promoted, but that's what has happened to Oswaldo Arcia.
Arcia began the year at Class A Beloit, where he batted .352 with a sick 1.124 OPS in 20 games - but only as a DH because of elbow problems. The Twins decided that he should have his elbow cleaned out, and he missed about two months.
Arcia is now healthy - and the Twins sent him right to Class A Fort Myers. He hit two doubles on Tuesday, showing some hustle to stretch a single on one of them. In three games since his return, he's 3-for-13.
It will be interesting to see how he does at Fort Myers. A corner outfielder, Arcia raised eyebrows last year at rookie league Elizabethton when he went .375/.424/.672. Can he keep it up? If he does well at Fort Myers, his prospect status will continue to rise.

E-TOWN TALK

Twins assistant GM Rob Antony just left Elizabethton, where he checked out some of the Twins' youngest prospects. Miguel Angel Sano, the Dominican bonus baby, is playing shortstop and third base there and his defense is raw.
``He's going to make his mistakes," Antony said, ``but he's can hit and he's got impressive power."
Sano has committed six errors in eight games for E-Town. But he's batting .324 and homered in back-to-back games this week. He won't stick at short, but the Twins want him to play there as much as possible as he continues to learn the game.
Outfielder Max Kepler is off to a 2-for-23 start, and Antony said part of the problem is nervousness. But he expects Kepler to improve once he gets comfortbale.
One to watch there is outfielder Eddie Rosario, their fourth round pick in 2010. He was considered the best hitter coming out of Puerto Rico that year and is batting .371 with 3 homers and 11 RBI through eight games.
Shortstop Niko Goodrum and second baseman Nick Lockwood are a couple others worth watching at E-Town

SYSTEM CHECK

Former Gopher infielder A.J.Petterson will miss four to six weeks with a broken nose when he was hit in the face by a 90 mile-an-hour fastball. Petterson had surgery in the Twin Cities on Wednesday and will remain here for most of his recovery.

Lefthander Pat Dean has the basic four-pitch mix. ``He's going to throw it where he wants and his fastball has some movement," said Jim Rantz, the Twins' director of minor leagues. Dean, the Twins' third-round pick in 2010, is off to a 2-0, 2.86 start at Class A Beloit.

Here comes Mr. Hicks

Catcher Jair Fernandez was sent to Class AAA Rochester when Steve Holm landed on the disabled list.

Rigthhander Kevin Slowey is scheduled to join Rochester after a bullpen session on Saturday in Fort Myers. Righthander Jeff Manship, recovering from a sore shoulder, will join him on the flight.

Lefthander Ryan Mullins, 41-49 with a 4.11 ERA in seven seasons in the system, has been released.

There are 17 pitchers at E-Town, as the Twins want to be careful and not overuse those who have pitched in college this season. One of them is second-round pick Madison Boer, a righthander. Boer has struck out five of the six batters he's faced but won't pitch for several days.
