Hello from a windy blustery typhoon-ish Ridges at Sand Creek where the girls' golf team from Minnewaska has just celebrated its fifth straight championship. The Lakers, who beat Red Wing by 15 for the team trophy, have now won the last three Class 2A titles to go along with 1A crowns in 2006 and 2007.

This win is No. 75 in a row for Minnewaska; the team has not finished second or worse in an official event since May of 2006. According to the National High School Sports Record Book, Minnewaska is only the third school in girls' high school golf history to win that many in a row. Henderson Green Valley (Nevada) won 144 in a row from 1992-2004, and Xavier College Prep in Phoenix has thrice won 77 or more matches in a row. So a big congratulations is in order.

The team celebrated by jumping in the small pond just off the 18th green. How confident were the Lakers? The team had pre-embroidered towels made up to dry off with after the leap.

Allie Ostrander and Sarah Roering, the only seniors on the Minnewaska scoring roster, shared medalist honors out here today. They each finished with scores of 150, four shots ahead of Breck's Anna Laorr.

Play is kind of slow out here today - the wind is really messing with players' shots. That might affect how far we get as the afternoon goes on. A tornado watch has been issued for the area and behind the scenes some tournament officials are not convinced we'll complete the boys' tournament today. Looking at radar, nothing is lurking, but with this wind and this humidity, a storm can pop up at any time. Already, some showers have formed but thankfully (so far) they fell apart.

Stay tuned.
