The Minnetrista City Council gave the green light to the first phase of the Woodland Cove development last week. The council voted 4-0 to approve a final plat for 214 residential lots, most of them for single-family homes.

Mattamy Homes will construct the housing on nearly 125 acres, some of it reserved for open space and trails.

The development at Hwy. 7 and Kings Point Road will transform 490 acres on the western side of Lake Minnetonka into a mix of several housing types over the next decade, from custom lake homes to row townhouses and multifamily units.

Carlson Real Estate Co. owns the land.

Kings Point Road will also be reconstructed later this year, as large new water and sanitary sewer pipes are installed. Already underway is construction of a roundabout on Hwy. 7 at one of the development's two main entrances.

Officials from Mattamy said they expect to construct a clubhouse and model homes this fall and winter to be ready for the spring of 2014.
