A Minnesota National Guard company, headquartered in Duluth with a detachment in Chisholm, is being redeployed to Afghanistan. Nicknamed "The Wolfpack," the 114th Transportation Unit moves supplies, ammunition, shelters and containers.

The unit, with 187 soldiers, was deployed to Afghanistan in 2009. One of its drivers, Specialist George Cauley, was killed when his convoy truck exploded after striking a mine.

A send-off ceremony is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Chisholm High School followed by lunch at the National Guard Armory. A thousand people are expected.

"They will be leaving family, community and a civilian life for fatigues, a life of austerity and the ever-present chance of danger," said Glenn Jackola, commander of the Chisholm American Legion.
