Preview: Minnesota United FC opens its season on the road against the Scorpions, who finished last in the fall season standings. Both teams look forward to leaving disappointing 2013 seasons behind them. They split two games at Toyota Field last season. San Antonio won the first meeting 2-0, United FC the second 3-2.

United FC at a glance: The team already has suffered adversity. Last season's leading scorer and former league MVP Pablo Campos was lost for the season with a knee injury. Nevertheless, players remain confident in their ability to get results. "This is the furthest along this team has been to start the season," midfielder Jamie Watson said. "Expectations are that we should be fighting for the spring championship, and I don't think that's unrealistic to say."

San Antonio at a glance: San Antonio shook up the roster, adding three former Major League Soccer players, including striker Eric Hassli. First-year Scorpions coach Alen Marcina, a former Minnesota Thunder player, told the San Antonio Express-News that Hassli's signing was a landmark and "one more step to position ourselves to achieve our objective of competing for a NASL championship."
