Troy Johnson and Tyler Obermueller shot 1-over-par 71 Monday, giving them a share of the lead after the first day of the MGA Amateur Championship at Interlachen Country Club in Edina.

Johnson, a three-time MGA Mid-Amateur champion, recorded four bogeys but played the final nine holes in even par.

Dave Carothers, Cecil Belisle and Grady Meyer are a stroke back at 72. Michael Schmitz was alone in sixth after a 73.

"I had it a couple under [par], but I kind of limped in on my last four holes and made a couple bogeys," Obermueller said after the first round. "This course requires a lot of conservative shots and a lot of hitting the center of the green. A two-putt for par is pretty darn good out here."
