Duke-bound guard Tre Jones of Apple Valley was named to the McDonald's All-America team.

Jones is one of 24 seniors selected to play in the McDonald's all-star game March 28 in Atlanta, the organization said Tuesday.

Jones, a 6-3 guard who has signed with Duke, averaged a points and rebounds double-double in the Class 4A state tournament in leading the Eagles to the championship a year ago.

He is the 13th Minnesota player to receive the honor.

Among the others was his brother Tyus, who went to Duke one year when the Blue Devils won the 2015 NCAA title and now plays for the Timberwolves.

Goldy named best mascot

Goldy Gopher won the national title for the second year in a row in the mascot division in the recent College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship in Orlando.

Minnesota's dance team took second place in three Division 1A competitions, pom, jazz and cheer game day. The Gophers had won the pom title the past eight years.
