Senior forward Sydney Squires scored two goals — her 11th and 12th of the season — within a span of 2 minutes, 11 seconds in the first half to lead the Gophers to a 3-2 soccer victory over Indiana on Friday night at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

Julianna Gernes, another senior forward, got the eventual game-winner in the 52nd minute, putting Minnesota (8-2-3, 4-1-1) ahead 3-1 on her sixth goal. April Bockin, a junior forward, got her 10th assist on the play. The Hoosiers (5-7-2, 1-4-1) cut the lead in half on midfielder Chandra Davidson's goal in the 54th minute on a header.

The Gophers, who host Purdue at 1 p.m. Sunday, have won three matches in a row.

• The Gophers named the captains for their men's and women's swimming and diving teams for this season, which opens Saturday at Florida State. On the men's team, they are Alan LeBlang, Conner McHugh and Jan Hansen. The women's team captains are sisters Chantal and Danielle Nack and Rae Bullinger.

• The Gophers softball team will play a doubleheader vs. North Dakota State starting at noon Saturday at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium.
