Minnesota Scene: Nine named to M Club's Hall of Fame.

Running back Laurence Maroney, the Gophers' second-­leading career rusher; women's basketball center Janel McCarville, a two-time first-team All-America, and Damion Hahn, who won NCAA wrestling titles in 2003 and '04, will be among nine individuals inducted into the M Club Hall of Fame on Sept. 13 at TCF Bank Stadium.

The others: Heather (Dorniden) Kampf, track and field; James McLean, golf; Pam (Miller) Dombeck, volleyball; Chris Paulos, softball and field hockey; Jim Peterson, gymnastics, and Justin Smith, golf.

Sudden impact

Burt Reynolds, signed only a day earlier, hit two home runs and had five RBI to lead the visiting St. Paul Saints to an 8-6 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

The Saints scored two runs in the ninth inning to break a 6-6 tie on Max Murphy's run-scoring single and a passed ball.

Johnson to Japan

Figure skater Alex Johnson, a Minnetonka native, will compete for the United States at NHK Trophy in Hiroshima, Japan, on Nov. 9-11.

It will be the first senior Grand Prix Series event for Johnson, 28, a student at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management who finished eighth at the 2018 U.S. championships. He trains at SportQuest Skating Academy in Minneapolis.
