Sylvia Fowles, the 6-6 center for the Lynx, led her overseas team, the Beijing Great Wall, to the Women's Chinese Basketball Association title on Tuesday.

She had 28 points — on 11-for-15 shooting — and 18 rebounds as Beijing beat Xinjiang 85-63 to win the best-of-five championship series 3-1.

U signs 7 ballplayers

The Gophers baseball team announced the signing of seven players. Four are Minnesotans: Alex Farley of Anoka and Sam Bridges of South St. Paul, and outfielders Drew Hmielewski of Marshall and Gabe Knowles of New Ulm Cathedral. Hmielewski will also play football at Minnesota.

Pitcher Nolan Burchill of Sioux Falls (S.D.) Lincoln, infielder Jack Wassel of Geneva, Ill., catcher/infielder Eli Wilson of Seattle Garfield complete the class.

• Eden Prairie junior forward Casey Mittelstadt was the Minnesota Associated Press player of the year in boys' hockey. Also on AP's first team were forwards Riley Tufte of Blaine and Cade Gleekel of Benilde-St. Margaret's, defensemen Wyatt Aamodt of Hermantown and Nick Austin of Benilde-St. Margaret's and goalie Nick Althaus of St. Cloud Apollo.

• Hamline forward Charlie Adams was named the MIAC player of the year in men's hockey. Augsburg's Chris Brown was named the coach of the year.

• North Dakota forward Brock Boeser, a freshman from Burnsville, made the NCHC's all-rookie team as did St. Cloud defensemen Jimmy Schuldt and Will Borgen.

• Damion Lowe, a 22-year-old defender, has joined Minnesota United FC on loan. He played for Seattle Sounders 2 in the USL last season.

• The Gophers tied for 12th in the Tiger Invitational in Opelika, Ala. Their top golfer was Jon Du Toit, who closed with a 1-under 71 for a 223 total to tie for 28th.

• The Gophers' Jake Short was selected for an at-large spot in the NCAA wrestling tournament. He finished seventh at 149 pounds in the Big Ten meet.
