Catcher Kendyl Lindaman, a freshman from Ankeny, Iowa, hit a two-run homer and a grand slam — both in the fifth inning — to lead the Gophers in a 12-0 rout of Illinois in five innings in a Big Ten softball game in Champaign, Ill. Lindaman leads the team with 10 homers and is second with 37 RBI.

No. 6 Minnesota (29-2, 4-0 Big Ten) scored 10 runs in the fifth, the final one on MaKenna Partain's solo homer.

Sara Groenewegen held the Illini (22-9, 3-1) to one hit and struck out seven as the Gophers won their eighth game in a row.

Four track titles for U

Senior Luca Wieland of the Gophers won the shot put with a toss of 48 feet, 2¼ inches at the UCLA Legends Invitational in Los Angeles. Teammates Mitch Hechsel won the 800 (1:49.16) and Evan Ferlic the 1,500 (3:52.15).

On the women's side, Agnes Esser led a 1-4 Gophers sweep in the hammer throw with a winning toss of 196-11 to successfully defend her title.

All-Stars score a lot

Sean Sutherlin of Irondale scored 33 points to pace the Blue team to a 132-112 victory over the Green team in the boys' basketball All-Star Series at St. Cloud on Friday.

In the second game, the Gold team defeated the Maroon 131-108 behind Isaac Johnson of Minneapolis North who scored 32 points, and Simon Wright of Hopkins, who had 6. The Maroon team was led by DeLaSalle's Goanar Mar with 24 points and Tartan's Jordan Horn with 19.

The teams will play two games at 2 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. Saturday at Macalester College in St. Paul.

• Sophomore Marino Alpeza won 2-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2 at No. 6 singles to give the Gophers a 4-3 victory over visiting Illinois in Big Ten men's tennis.

• The Gophers baseball game vs. Michigan State on Friday in East Lansing, Mich., was postponed because of rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.
