MIAC champion Gustavus received the No. 4 seed in a four-team NCAA Division III softball regional and will play tournament host Central College at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Pella, Iowa. Aurora and Fontbonne will play in the first game.

At-large entry St. Thomas, in the NCAA tournament for the 12th year in a row, will play Linfield on Friday in a D-III regional in Decorah, Iowa, that also includes St. Scholastica and host Luther. Both regionals will be double-elimination.

• The St. Thomas women's tennis team will play in an NCAA regional this weekend in Chicago, opening play against St. Norbert. … The Gustavus men's tennis team will play in a regional at Wisconsin-Whitewater.

• Gophers sophomore Sara Groenewegen was chosen Big Ten softball pitcher of the week for the fifth time this season. Groenewegen (28-4) went 3-0 with 47 strikeouts in 22 innings, including a school-record 19 against Purdue. The Gophers open play in the Big Ten tournament on Friday.

• The Gophers' Jose Mendez received a berth in an NCAA men's golf regional May 14-16 in Bremerton, Wash. The 54-hole event will be at Gold Mountain Golf Club. Mendez is the second-seeded of five individuals in the region.

• The Minnesota Swarm will not renew the contracts of head coach and associate general manager Joe Sullivan and assistant coaches Aime Caines and Rory McDade for next season, the team announced. The Swarm has missed the National Lacrosse League playoffs the past two seasons.
