The season's perfect start ended Sunday for the ninth-ranked Gophers women's soccer team when No. 7 Duke took a 1-0 victory in the Duke Nike Classic at Durham, N.C.

The Gophers fell to 5-1, a day after beating Villanova 5-0 in the Nike Classic. Duke improved to 4-1-1.

"I couldn't be more proud of the way this team played this weekend." Gophers coach Stefanie Golan said. "Friday we came out with a 5-0 victory, and today we went toe-to-toe with the best Duke team I've seen."

The Gophers had 12 shots to Duke's nine. Senior midfielder Josee Stiever led the Gophers with four shots, one on goal. Simone Kolander had three shots.

Sunday's goal was the first allowed by the Gophers in 435 minutes. They have outscored opponents 16-2 this season.

Kolander and the Gophers' April Bockin were named to the all-tournament team.

Saints fall but set mark

Luis Alen drove in five runs, propelling the Lincoln Saltdogs past the St. Paul Saints 8-7 at CHS Field, where the Saints set a franchise attendance record by reaching 405,912.
