Caleb Truax, a 34-year-old boxer from Osseo, won the IBF supermiddleweight title Saturday when he beat champion James DeGale by majority decision at Copper Box Arena in East London.

It was the second loss for DeGale, a Brit who is 23-2-1 and a former Olympic champion. Truax improved to 29-3-2 in winning his first world title.

One judge scored it 114-114, but the other two scored it 115-112 and 116-112.

Truax took charge in the fifth round, backing DeGale into the ropes and bloodying his nose.

DeGale was making the fourth defense of the title he won in 2015, and fighting on home soil for the first time in more than three years.

DeGale sensed that he needed a late knockout, but Truax stood firm and, at the final bell, dropped to his knees in the belief he had won.
