• Kyle Bratrud of Eden Prairie and Caitlin Gregg of Minneapolis each won national titles Sunday on the opening day of the U.S. cross country skiing championships in Houghton, Mich. Bratrud, 21, won the men's 15-kilometer freestyle, defeating Olympian Kris Freeman by almost 50 seconds to capture his first U.S. title. Gregg, a 2010 Olympian, earned her fourth national championship as she won the women's 10K freestyle.

• Canterbury Park has announced it will hold 13 stakes races for quarter horses during the 2015 season, with purses totaling more than $500,000 — the highest ever for quarter horses at the Shakopee track. Season highlights include the $150,000 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity and the $50,000 Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby, both on July 5.
