Minnesota Scene: Gophers cross-country team takes third in Wisconsin women's meet

Naomi Ollila, Ally Smith and Sarah Klecker posted top-20 finishes in leading the Gophers women's cross-country team to third place at the Tori Neubauer Invitational at Ettrick (Wis). Golf Club.

The Gophers took third in the 22-team meet with 117 points, behind winner and host Wisconsin-La Crosse (36 points) and Nebraska Wesleyan with 97 points. Rounding out the top five were St. Olaf (126) and Iowa Central (151).

Ollila paced the Gophers in 14th place in a season-best 23 minutes, 14.95 seconds over 6,000 meters, followed by Smith in a season-best 23:20.53 in 17th place. Klecker ran a personal-best 23:21.20 for 18th.

• Iowa Central claimed the top four spots and ran away with the men's 6K Jim Drews Invitational in Ettrick with 23 points. St. Olaf, led by a seventh place from Joe Coffey, was third with 117 points and Gustavus Adolphus sixth (186) in the 20-team field.

• The second-ranked Concordia (St. Paul) volleyball team bounced back Saturday from a five-set loss to No. 3 Southwest Minnesota State the previous night — in which the Golden Bears blew a 2-0 lead — by sweeping Sioux Falls 28-26, 25-14, 25-4.
