Gophers forward Leon Bristedt, a sophomore from Stockholm, was named the Big Ten's second star of the week in men's hockey.

He had three goals and one assist as Minnesota split with Wisconsin last weekend, losing 4-3, then winning 4-1.

He has 19 goals and 35 points going into the Big Ten tournament this week.

Great 8 coming up

The Ted Brill Great 8 in boys' hockey will be held Friday through Sunday at the Doug Woog Arena in South St. Paul. Eight teams, made up of seniors from Class 2A and 1A, will compete in three games.

A High Performance 18 Festival, made up of four teams will also be part of the weekend.

Goalie Alex Schilling of Class 2A champion Wayzata and defenseman Eric Gotz and goalie Luke Olson of Class 1A champion Hermantown are among the players in the Great 8.

Dakota Tech loses

Lansing (Mich.) Community College defeated Dakota County Tech 91-78 in the first round of the NJCAA Division II men's basketball tournament on Tuesday in Danville, Ill.

Javon Haines scored 31 points to lead Lansing (29-4), the No. 2 seed, which led 45-41 at halftime.

Noble Fahnbulleh had 26 points and 17 rebounds and Keenan Bellaphant scored 19 to lead Dakota County Tech (20-11).

Dakota County Tech will play Columbus State C.C. in the consolation bracket at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Columbus State (24-7) lost to Essex County 92-69 in the first round.

• Junior Sara Groenewegen of the Gophers was named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's co-pitcher of the week. She threw a perfect game in a 1-0 victory over Florida Atlantic. And in three starts overall, gave up only two hits in 14 innings while striking out 22 and not giving up a run. Groenewegen was named Big Ten pitcher of the week the day before. But she was the losing pitcher Tuesday night when the No. 22 Gophers (16-8) fell 6-4 at Tulsa, giving up all six runs on six hits.

• The Gophers men's golf team finished eighth out of 15 teams in the San Diego Classic, shooting a 36-over-par 900 for 56 holes. Grady Meyer was the top individual, firing a 6-over 222 to tie for 20th place.

• Emma Paulson of St. Thomas is the top seed in two women's events in the NCAA Division III swimming and diving championships, which open Wednesday in Greensboro, N.C. She has the fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle (22.86 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (56.67) and is the third seed in the 200 backstroke. Mike Lanz of the Tommies is the top seed in the 100 butterfly (47.97).

• Lindsay Mable, Hanna Nordquist and Bailie Holst of the Gophers were named to the Big Ten first all-conference team in women's gymnastics. Teammates Ciara Gardner and Madeline Hanley made the second team. … Nordquist, a senior from Ostego, Minn., was named the conference specialist of the week after her perfect 10.0 on the beam at the Big Ten meet last Saturday.

• North Dakota moved up to No. 1 in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls, supplanting Quinnipiac. UND has won eight games in a row going into the NCHC tournament this weekend at Target Center.
