Former Timberwolves scout Trey Schwab died Sunday from complications with a double-lung replacement surgery that saved his life more than 12 years ago. He was 50.

A former special assistant to then-Marquette coach Tom Crean and an organ-donor advocate for the past decade, Schwab met former Wolves coach and president of basketball operations Flip Saunders on the basketball staff at the University of Tulsa in the 1980s. Schwab joined him at jobs in the CBA and NBA before Marquette hired Schwab in 2001.

In a statement Sunday, team owner Glen Taylor called Schwab "beloved" and "a wonderful person who had a tremendously positive impact on everyone he came across. He exhibited an incredible love for the game of basketball and a genuine passion for helping others."
