Rúnar Arnórsson, a sophomore from Iceland, won his first collegiate golf event in leading the Gophers to a second-place finish Tuesday at the Barona Collegiate Cup in San Diego.

Arnórsson carded a 9-under-par 207 to win the tournament. He also broke the program record for best round with a 10-under 62 in the first round.

The Gophers shot 880 over the three rounds for their best finish of the 2015-16 season. San Diego State ran away with the team title with a score of 838.

• Shakopee senior Taylor Koenen was named the Minnesota Associated Press Player of the Year for girls' basketball by a vote of statewide media. Joining Koenen on the AP's all-state team are Hopkins' Nia Hollie, St. Paul Como Park's Andrayah Adams, Elk River's Abi Scheid and Rochester John Marshall's Jamie Ruden.

• Gophers guard Rachel Banham was one of eight players selected to the three-point roster for the College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships in Cypress, Texas. Banham holds the Gophers' game, season and career three-point records, finishing with 354 threes during her career. The event will air live on ESPN at 8 p.m. CT on March 31.

• The Gophers baseball team beat Augsburg 10-3 in its home opener at Siebert Field after 17 road games. Senior Connor Schaefbauer led the Gophers with four RBI.

• Former Lynx guard Candice Wiggins announced her retirement. She played eight years in the WNBA, including the first five with the Lynx. Wiggins, 29, earned Sixth Woman of the Year honors in 2008, her rookie season, and helped the Lynx win its first league title in 2011.
