Andrew McCain shot a 4-under 68 for the second day in a row on Saturday to increase his lead in the Minnesota State Open Championship at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids from one shot to three.

McCain, of Dellwood Country Club and the 2015 champion in this tournament, has a 136 total.

Second is Ross Miller of Sundance GC at 139, a stroke ahead of Michael Schmitz of The Bridges GC. Both also shot 68s their second round.

Ben Greve, the two-time defending champion, is part of a six-way tie for fourth place at 142. Greve, of Minneapolis GC, shot 72. Also tied for fourth is Joe Conzemius of Dakota Pines GC, whose 6-under 66 was the best round Saturday.

Saints swept

The visiting St. Paul Saints lost 3-0 and 6-1 to the Gary SouthShore Railcats.

In the first game, resumed in the second inning from Friday when it was halted by rain, Gary starter Daniel Minor and two relievers combined to hold the Saints to four hits.

Zach Walters doubled and scored an unearned run for the Saints in the seven-inning second game.

• Eli Tomac of Cortez, Colo., won both 450cc motos at the Spring Creek Nationals in Millville, Minn. The top local racer was Henry Miller of Rochester who placed 11th. Aaron Plessinger of Hamilton, N.Y., swept first in the two 250cc motos, while Alex Martin, competing on the track his family owns, was seventh and second, to finish third overall.

• Guard Paige Bueckers of Hopkins High School had 12 points and five assists as the U.S. team beat Italy 86-48 in its opening game of the FIBA U17 World Cup in Minsk, Belarus.

• Sophomore-to-be defenseman Griffin Ludtke of Lakeville South committed to Omaha, he announced on Twitter.
