Minnesota legislative auditor releases results of its investigation of DHS overpayments

Legislative Auditor James Nobles released the results of its investigation into Medicaid overpayments by the state Department of Human Services (DHS) to Indian bands for opioid addiction treatment. Two Indian bands, White Earth and Leech Lake, received more than $30 million in payments for medications that help wean patients from addiction, even though the patients were taking the medications at home. The investigation explores the cause of the overpayments, when they began, who was responsible, and why action was not taken sooner to stop them.
