An off-duty Minneapolis police officer was booked in Scott County jail on DWI charges early Sunday morning.
James John Lopez, 53, of St. Paul, was stopped by Savage police. The patrol officer was charged Wednesday with 4th degree DWI and 3rd degree DWI, a refusal to submit to a breathalyzer. The latter is a gross misdemeanor.
Lopez has since been released from jail. His current employment status is unclear.
Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder said the department is "aware of an incident and are investigating internally."
Lopez will make his first court appearance in Scott County on Feb. 22.
