Minnesota clergy are being called upon to help soldiers returning from combat, who are dealing with issues like stress or suicidal thoughts as they readjust to civilian life.

The Minnesota National Guard and Veterans Administration are holding a training event for clergy to help them better minister to veteran soldiers. The event is slated for Tuesday at Alliance Community Church in Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Topics discussed at the event will include recognizing signs of stress in returning veterans and their family members and ways to help them.

The Guard has sponsored similar events within the past few years. The latest was held June 11 at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, where close to 100 clergy were in attendance.

Clergy interested in attending Tuesday's event are encouraged to R.S.V.P. at Richard.rittmaster@us.army.mil or via phone at 952-818-0227.
