Armed suspect shot by officer following foot chase in Milwaukee

August 1, 2013 at 10:50AM

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee police say an officer has shot a suspect who was armed with a handgun.

Authorities say officers responded to a north side neighborhood about 12:30 a.m. Thursday after receiving an alert about shots fired from their ShotSpotter gunshot detection system.

A suspect ran from officers when he saw a squad approach. Police say the 22-year-old man turned toward an officer who was chasing him with gun in hand. That's when the officer fired and struck the suspect. He was taken to a local hospital. His wounds are not believed to be life-threatening.
