First, from ESPN.com: Tom Izzo insisted recently that he has no interest in coaching in the NBA until he wins at least one more NCAA title at Michigan State. But that stance might not stop the Cleveland Cavaliers from trying to hire Izzo as their next coach.

The Cavaliers -- fresh off dismissing coach Mike Brown and parting ways with general manager Danny Ferry -- have formally extended an offer to Izzo to replace Brown, sources confirmed to ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard on Monday. The Cavaliers did not confirm or deny the report, declining comment Sunday night. The News-Herald in Northern Ohio first reported the Cavs' offer to Izzo.

And now, the questions:

1) Assuming the Cavs are interested in Izzo, would this be a good move for the Cavs? Plenty of coaches have jumped from college hoops to pro hoops. It's an entirely different animal. Many have failed. Would he have the chops to succeed?

2) Assuming the Cavs are interested in Izzo, do you think he is interested? While he has proven a lot at the college level, he also has a great niche at Michigan State.

3) Who is pulling the strings here? As in, is Izzo -- assuming this is true -- LeBron's hand-picked coach if he is to stay in Cleveland?

4) How much rejoicing would there be in Gopherland to get Izzo and his coaching prowess out of the Big Ten?

5) How does Izzo coach with that microphone growing out of his armpit?

Our takes: Something about Izzo's demeanor and style makes us think he could have a successful transition to the pro game. He garners a different type of respect than a lot of college coaches. That said, we have to think he would only bolt for the Cavs job if he was convinced a better opportunity would never come along, which obviously means he would have to know LeBron was staying. The Big Ten as a whole would miss Izzo; the Gophers and their fans would not miss the constant [redacted]-kickings.
