St. Thomas broke open a close game with three touchdowns in the final six minutes of the first half and cruised to a 71-20 victory over Hamline in an MIAC game on Saturday in St. Paul.

The visiting Pipers scored twice in a four-minute span in the second quarter to pull within 22-20, but the Tommies (7-0, 5-0 MIAC) responded with 21 consecutive points to open a 43-20 halftime lead.

The Tommies, ranked No. 4 in the d3football.com poll, scored on their first possession of the second half to extend their lead to 50-20.

Tucker Trettel rushed for a career-high 189 yards and three TDs and Alex Fenske passed for 148 yards and three TDs for the Tommies.

The St. Thomas defense limited Hamline to 119 yards in offense while forcing three turnovers and recording eight sacks.

The Tommies finished with 531 yards in offense.

With the victory, the Tommies reached two milestones. The victory was the 600th in the program's history. St. Thomas became the third college team in state history to reach the milestone, joining the Gophers (680) and St. John's (616).

The victory was also the 100th career victory for Tommies coach Glenn Caruso, who is in his ninth season at St. Thomas.

St. John's 56, Gustavus Adolphus 10: The Johnnies defense limited the Gusties offense to three points and 129 yards in the victory in St. Peter, Minn.

The Johnnies (7-1, 5-1 MIAC, ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division III, forced four turnovers by the Gusties (3-4, 1-4). Ben Alvord passed for 221 yards and three TDs and Dusty Krueger rushed for two TDs to pace the Johnnies, who outgained the Gusties, 452-129.

St. Olaf 32, Carleton 25: Jack Goldstein passed for 328 yards and two TDs and Brian Aviles rushed for 82 yards and a TD to lead the Oles (2-5, 1-4) past their crosstown rival for their first conference victory. Christian Zaytoun passed for 305 yards and a TD for the Knights (1-7, 1-5).

Concordia (Moorhead) 43, Augsburg 13: The Cobbers rushed for 293 yards to grind out the victory over the host Auggies. Chad Johnson rushed for 87 yards and a TD, and three teammates also ran for a TD for the Cobbers (5-2, 4-1).
