After speaking with some friends who are in town for the series, estimates of a 50-50 split between Cubs and Twins fans yesterday were exaggerated. They felt the crowd of 41,492 was 30 percent Twins fans, 70 Cubs fans. There didn't seem to be as many Twins fans here as there were in 2009, and they weren't close to being as loud.

I am now of the opinion that it must stink to be the last 2-3 relievers in a bullpen. If there is an extra-inning game or a stretch of short starts that leads to bullpen usage, you're in danger of being sent down. You could pitch two or three innings of scoreless relief but get a ticket to the minors because a team needs a fresh arm.

Alan Busenitz has an ERA over 6.00 but deserves to get longer looks in the majors than he's getting. But he was the one sent to Rochester on Friday to make room for Adalberto Mejia. Tough break. Twins manager Paul Molitor said this morning that Busenitz was not sent down because of results.

"I think Buse can help us," Molitor said. "I think he was kind of odd man out in this particular instance. I thought his outings were good. He threw it over. Got hurt on a hanging breaking ball, but for the most part he's fine. He's aggressive. I think he's confident. He was just a moving piece in this equation."

Sooner or later, talent has to beat out experience.

It will be very interesting to see Mejia pitch today. He's saying all the right things about making adjustments and learning to finish off hitters. He's 4-1 with a 1.41 ERA this month for Rochester, so he has pitched himself into this opportunity. Let's see what he does with it.
