Meet the man behind the bags Accessories designer Steve Dumain ("D") from Be & D will be at Pumpz & Co (Galleria, Edina, 952-926-2252) for a trunk show today from 3 to 7 p.m. It's his first trip to Minnesota, although his business partner Be Inthavong visited last year. Dumain will bring luxury handbags and shoes made of Italian leather in New York, including his two must-haves for the season -- booties and "statement" bags, such as an oversized clutch. The idea behind Be & D is old Hollywood, as in Greta Garbo and Elizabeth Taylor. "Every woman should feel a little like a celebrity," Dumain said.

Shop news and events Two new sophisticated boutiques have opened this month, both with extremely polished interiors and merchandise. Belle Reve (320 E. Hennepin Av., Mpls., 612-333-3148) features walls in jazzy shades of purple and wrought-iron fixtures inspired by New Orleans. Owner Aisha Ghanchi stocked the store with unique, trendy items by Twinkle by Wenlan, Custo Barcelona, Foley & Corinna and LAMB accessories. Check www.bellereveboutique.com for information about a Mardi Gras-themed opening on Nov. 8.

Across town, in the Excelsior and Grand complex in St. Louis Park, you'll find OPM (3700 Grand Way, St. Louis Park, 952-567-7399, www.opmboutique.com). The stark white industrial space with a chandelier motif houses pretty dresses by Catherine Malandrino, leather jackets by Mike & Chris and beautifully displayed handbags. Look for Mulberry and Valentino to be added soon. Celebrate the opening with owners Susan Sun, Isaac Broberg and their dog Armani with a fashion show at 7 p.m. Friday.

In the local boutique scene, it's not all good news: The downtown St. Paul location of Il Vostro that opened just before the Republican National Convention closed this month.

Museum-worthy jewelry Peering into the jewelry case at Walker Art Center (1750 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls.) is the best "window" shopping in town. On Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., check out the annual Local-to-Global Artist Mart. It's a one-day sale that's basically an expanded version of the shop. This year, the local artists will be Micaela Clark, Ann Lambrecht Glickman, Tia Keobounpheng, Becky Klay and Jill Smith. "I've always wanted to be at the Walker," Clark said. The Minneapolis-based designer has been creating trinkets for over 30 years, but this will be her debut at the museum. Look for her elaborate bracelets, necklaces and earrings, made of repurposed vintage jewelry and found objects. This necklace features a jack rabbit foot, vintage chains, chandelier crystal and pin-up girl charms.

Banana Republic "Give where you live" Through Sunday, donate a gently worn sweater or coat at any Banana Republic and receive a 30 percent discount on regular-priced merchandise. You'll go home with new clothes and your old clothes will be donated to Goodwill.

Style Star: Roxanne Bradley of Minneapolis

Spotted at: Salut in Edina

Does Roxanne Bradley look sad? When this photo was taken she had just arrived at Salut after seeing "The Secret Life of Bees," which made her cry -- a lot. But no matter; her cute movie-appropriate outfit was way more noticeable than her red eyes. The art director/designer got her scarf from Old Navy, Kenneth Cole jacket from TJ Maxx, Rectangle Designs T-shirt from Design Collective, jeans and bag from Gap and Kenneth Cole boots from Piperlime.com.
