Lynx center Taj McWilliams-Franklin may have to look for a new team. A winter team, that is.

The Lynx want to have her back next summer. Her problem is that her team in Israel, Elizur Ramla, might not play again this winter. Seems the Israeli players are striking and the league has canceled its season. Here is the story on Hoopfeed.com:

Female basketball players on teams in the Israel Basketball Association will not grace the court this season. The professional women's basketball league canceled the season after the local player's union called a strike due to a dispute about the number of foreigners allowed per team.

"The players' union is illegal," IBA chairman Shay Shani said to the Jerusalem Post. "The league will not take place this season."

Local players want at least two Israeli players to be on the court during games at all times. This request is similar to the rules in the Russian League for foreign participation on teams. The IBA previously had a similar policy but reversed it this year. Local players sat out the first game of the season and the strike is the first in the league's 54-year history.

Several WNBA players play on Israeli teams.

11 WNBA PLAYERS IN LEAGUE

Actually, the story understates the number of WNBA players in the Israel Basketball Association. There are at least 11, according to wnba.com:

Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Lynx

Jessica Breland, Connecticut

Kerri Gardin, Washington

Alexis Gray-Lawson and Ketia Swanier, Phoenix

Karima Christman, Tulsa

Jia Perkins, Porsha Phillips and Danielle Robinson, San Antonio

Plenette Pierson, N.Y. Liberty

Tanisha Wright, Seattle

In the one game McWilliams-Franklin played, she had 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.
