Looks like Ryan McDonagh will be staying for his senior season at Wisconsin after all.

The junior defenseman was named the team captain at the Badgers' awards banquet. Hard to imagine he would accept that honor if he planned to sign a pro contract. McDonagh was drafted 12th overall in the first round of the 2007 NHL draft by Montreal. Last June the Canadiens traded his draft rights to the New York Rangers.

McDonagh of Arden Hills also received awards on Wednesday for being the Most Competitive player and for community service.

Hobey Baker Award winner Blake Geoffrion was named the team MVP on a Wisconsin team which finished 28-11-4 and went as far as the NCAA title game.

Ben Street received the Academic/Athletic Excellence Award.

McDonagh, Geoffrion and Street were the team's tri-captains this past season.

Michael Davies received the Most Improved award; he was the team's second-leading scorer (20-32-52).

Sophomore defenseman Jake Gardiner, a former Minnetonka H.S. standout, was named the Most Consistent player. he had a plus-25 rating.

Aaron Bendickson, of Thief River Falls, received the Seventh Man on the Ice award, given to a player who tries his best and represents the Badgers the best.

Sophmore forward Derek Stefan, of Hastings, was named an assistant captain. He led the Badgers in scoring (12-42-54).
