Whether you're decorating your dorm room or a massive fireplace mantle, the MCAD Art Sale is the go-to event for buying affordable local fine art. (Snooty art buyers: Leave your monocle at home.) At the two-day affair (Fri. and Sat.), more than 7,000 pieces will be on sale – all by students and alumni from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. All proceeds benefit the artists.

MCAD says the average piece costs less than $100, and no piece is more than $1000.

New this year: You can preview some of the art on Facebook.

The sale:
6 p.m.-9 p.m. Fri. $35 advance/ $40 at the door.
9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat. Free admission.
2501 Stevens Ave., Mpls. 612-874-3700.
