2007-08: Mbakwe plays in only 11 games as a freshman at Marquette due to a knee injury suffered prior to the start of the regular season.

2008-09: Following Marquette coach Tom Crean's departure to Indiana, Mbakwe transfers to Miami Dade College, where he earns junior college All-America honors.

April 2009: A woman accuses Mbakwe of assaulting her. He is charged with felony assault in Miami and is set to go to trial that summer.

Summer 2009: Mbakwe transfers to Minnesota and hopes to play in the fall.

November 2009: Due to multiple delays in his assault case, Mbakwe's trial is still pending at the start of the 2009-10 season. Gophers athletic director Joel Maturi announces Mbakwe will be held out of competition pending a resolution in his legal situation. The forward will not be allowed to travel with the team or dress for games, Maturi says.

2009-10: The case is not resolved all season, so he doesn't play, taking a redshirt instead.

August 2010: Mbakwe enters a pretrial intervention program, effectively resolving his case. He agrees to community service but never pleads guilty. Maturi reinstates him.

Jan. 9-10, 2011: Mbakwe sends a Facebook message to woman who held a restraining order against him. The woman calls police and Mbakwe is arrested. After being released from jail, he criticizes the woman on Twitter. The university releases the Facebook message he sent to the woman and ultimately decides against suspending him.

March 7, 2011: Mbakwe is named to the coaches' and media's All-Big Ten second teams.
