Vikings running back Matt Asiata recorded his second game this season with three touchdowns in the 29-26 victory over Washington on Sunday at TCF Bank Stadium.

Asiata scored 20 of the Vikings' 29 points, including a two-point conversation that extended the lead to three points with 3:27 left.

"The coaches trust me in the goal line area, and I just have to do my job, trust the offensive line, read my read and score a touchdown for our team," Asiata said.

The 27-year-old has had a strange career that has consisted of 36 games. The nine career rushing touchdowns he's recorded have come in three games where he's bulldozed into the endzone three times.

"I think it is just the game flow and trying to keep the momentum going and keep our defense hyped up," said Asiata of the three touchdown performances.

He became the first undrafted player in the common draft era to have three games with three or more rushing touchdowns in his first three seasons. Asiata first accomplished the feat this season against the Falcons.

Asiata six touchdowns this season and has become a touchdown vulture, a term coined by fantasy football players for goal line running backs. His second touchdown was a career long seven yards, while the other two were scored from a yard out.

"I love the way that he had an opportunity to kind of go in a different direction when [Jerick] McKinnon started getting a lot more carries, but he kept fighting, doing what he's supposed to do," Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said. "He's a great team player. I love having him here."
