Road to Minneapolis: Mark Craig's hot Super Bowl matchup of the week

Jacksonville, Team Yo-Yo, has alternated wins and losses every week, but has clobbered Houston, Baltimore and Pittsburgh with head-turning defensive dominance, outscoring them 103-23.

ROAD TO MINNEAPOLIS SUPER BOWL LII

For the Vikings to reach the Super Bowl …

For last week's add-on to the Vikings' To-Do list for the Road to Minneapolis, I suggested Latavius Murray "re-energize" a wounded running game. Murray didn't, but Jerick McKinnon sure did. But McKinnon isn't built to be a workhorse NFL back. Murray will have to chip in ASAP. This week, I'll add takeaways to the To-Do list. The Vikings won last week because they had two key takeaways. But they have only five on the year.

Super Bowl Dream Matchup?

Question: Which two quarterbacks would you most like to see oppose each other in Super Bowl LII? Matt Ryan vs. Tom Brady was a marquee matchup last season. This year, how about an all-Pennsylvania battle between Carson Wentz and Ben Roethlisberger (assuming he's done throwing five picks in a game)? How about Brady vs. Brees? Dak Prescott vs. Deshaun Watson? My pick: A close back-and-forth battle between 2005 draftees Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers.

Did you know?

Tom Coughlin became the oldest coach to win a Super Bowl when the Giants won Super Bowl XLVI. He was 65 years, five months and six days. Bill Belichick, 65, could break that by about four months this season.

Three up, three down

Allowing only 14 points in a road win on a short week puts the Patriots back in my "up" category, along with Jacksonville and Seattle. The "down" teams: Bills, Steelers and Lions.

Destination Minneapolis

Week 5 Possibility: Jacksonville?!

Jacksonville vs. New Orleans

Jacksonville, Team Yo-Yo, has alternated wins and losses every week, but has clobbered Houston, Baltimore and Pittsburgh with head-turning defensive dominance, outscoring them 103-23.

Why Jacksonville (3-2)? It's doubtful to impossible that the Jags would be able to hide Blake Bortles in the postseason. But they are a power-running team with the ability to dominate defensively.

Why New Orleans (2-2)? Adrian Peterson didn't like the way they did things when he was there, but perhaps the Saints are turning a corner. After starting 0-2, their defense has risen alongside Drew Brees while allowing only 13 points the past two games.

My preseason pick: Seattle (3-2) vs. Pittsburgh (3-2). Both lead their respective divisions, but are going in opposite directions. Seattle went to L.A. and held off the upstart Rams. The Steelers had a confidence-crushing home loss to Jaguars.
