FARGO, N.D. - An East Grand Forks, Minn., man has pleaded guilty in what authorities say was a deadly synthetic drug ring in northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.
Twenty-seven-year-old Scott Anthony is the 10th person charged in what federal prosecutors say was a Grand Forks, N.D.-based conspiracy to produce and deal synthetic psychedelic drugs. They led to the deaths of two teenagers and the hospitalization of at least five others this summer.
The Grand Forks Herald reports (http://bit.ly/UQXhFC) that Anthony and four others have accepted plea deals. They're expected to get reduced sentences. The man alleged to be the ringleader, Andrew Spofford of Grand Forks, and four others have pleaded not guilty and are scheduled for trial this fall on charges that could land them in prison for 20 years or more.
