A man in a wheelchair was killed Thursday night when he was struck by car at Olson Memorial Highway and James Avenue N. in Minneapolis.

The man, who police have not named, was northbound on James when he tried to cross the highway about 9:40 p.m., said Cyndi Barrington, spokesman for the Minneapolis Police Department.

There is no crosswalk or traffic signal at the intersection, she said. The vehicle that struck him was eastbound on the highway, where the speed limit is 40 miles per hour, she said.

The driver of the car stopped immediately as did the driver of another car to help the man in the wheelchair, who died at the scene, Barrington said.
