Police are investigating a fatal shooting in south Minneapolis.

Officers found a man lying in the street on the 3000 block of 5th Avenue S. when they arrived at 4:48 a.m. Thursday, said department spokesman John Elder.

A person who had heard shots in the area just off Lake Street placed the 911 call, Elder said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers and homicide investigators are interviewing people who live in the area to see if they had heard or seen anything, Elder said.

If it is determined that the death is a homicide, it would be the city's 16th of the year.
